However, the match also saw controversy as RCB head coach Andy Flower was fined 15% of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The IPL confirmed that Flower violated Article 2.3 relating to the use of an audible obscenity during a heated exchange with the fourth umpire in the 17th over of RCB’s chase.
The incident stemmed from a contentious boundary decision involving Krunal Pandya, where a catch attempt near the ropes led to confusion over whether the ball had touched the boundary cushions. Replays later confirmed there was no contact with the ropes, and the decision stood as a dot ball.
Flower admitted to an aggressive exchange with the match officials and accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Amit Sharma. As per IPL rules, Level 1 penalties are final and binding.
On the field, RCB held their nerve in a thrilling finish to chase down 166, sealing victory on the final delivery. Krunal Pandya starred with a brilliant 73 off 46 balls, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the bowling attack with an impressive 4/23 as RCB restricted MI to 166/6.
The win further strengthens RCB’s strong campaign in IPL 2026, while MI’s defeat ended their tournament hopes.
