The Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to start on March 22 and will take place entirely in India, according to league chairman Arun Dhumal. Despite the upcoming general elections in April and May, the IPL’s 17th edition schedule has not been released. Initially, only the first 15 days’ schedule will be revealed, with the remaining games scheduled after the announcement of the general election dates, which are expected next month.

We aim to commence the tournament on March 22. Our collaboration with government agencies is underway, and our first step will be to release the initial schedule. The entirety of the tournament will take place in India,” stated Dhumal.

In 2009, the IPL took place entirely in South Africa, and in 2014, part of the tournament was held in the UAE due to general elections. However, in 2019, the IPL happened in India despite the elections.

With the T20 World Cup starting soon after the IPL concludes, the final is expected on May 26. India’s first World Cup match against Ireland is on June 5 in New York, while the tournament kicks off with the USA and Canada on June 1.

The IPL tradition continues with the opener between last year’s winners, Chennai Super Kings, and runners-up Gujarat Titans. The auction for the 2024 season took place in December, and Australian pacer Mitchell Starc set a record as the most expensive player in IPL history, bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.75 crore.
