Rohit Sharma will return to lead India in the day/night Test against Australia in Adelaide, starting Friday. After a brief paternity break, Rohit has made a selfless decision to bat in the middle order, allowing KL Rahul to open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both Rahul and Jaiswal played pivotal roles in India’s record-breaking win in Perth, solidifying their spots at the top of the order.

Shubman Gill, back from a thumb injury, is set to join the playing XI, replacing Devdutt Padikkal, while Rohit’s inclusion pushes Dhruv Jurel out. This shuffle highlights India’s enviable depth, a stark contrast to their under-strength side in previous tours.

Speaking about his decision, Rohit said:
“We want results, and the team comes first. Rahul and Jaiswal were brilliant in Perth, and they deserve to continue opening. While it’s not easy for me to move down the order, it makes sense for the team.”

India enters the Adelaide Test in a strong position after a dominant performance in Perth, where they handed Australia their first loss at the Optus Stadium. However, the pink-ball Test presents unique challenges, particularly in handling extra seam movement during the twilight period.

Australia, with an impressive record of 11 wins in 12 day-night Tests at home, will be eager to bounce back after a 10-day break. The hosts are under pressure to recover after the shock defeat in the opening match.

For India, this is an opportunity to build on the gains from Perth. Virat Kohli’s return to form and Jaiswal’s debut century were major positives. Shubman Gill, who showed promise in the practice match, will look to replicate his past successes in Australia.

India’s bowling lineup remains unchanged, though the Adelaide pitch traditionally offers spin, bringing R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja into focus. With Rohit’s leadership and a balanced XI, India aims to extend their momentum against a determined Australian side.
