“India Will Dominate the World More Often”: Sanju Samson Predicts Golden Era for Indian Cricket

Following India’s dominant 96-run victory over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium to secure their third T20 World Cup title, star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has predicted a golden era of global dominance for the Men in Blue.

"India Will Dominate the World More Often": Sanju Samson Predicts Golden Era for Indian Cricket

Speaking on the sidelines of the BCCI Naman Awards, the Kerala-born sensation admitted he is still soaking in the reality of being a world champion. “When I get up in the morning, I’m like, ‘Has it really happened?’” Samson told ESPNcricinfo. “But with the quality of players coming up, India is definitely going to do this more and more often.”

The Knockout King
Samson’s journey in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is the stuff of cinema. After featuring in only one early-tournament match, he exploded in the knockout stages with three consecutive match-winning performances:

Quarter-Finals: 97* vs. West Indies

Semi-Finals: 89 vs. England

Final: 89 vs. New Zealand

Finishing with 321 runs at a staggering strike rate of nearly 200, Samson was rightfully named Player of the Tournament.

A “Movie-Like” Career Shift
Though Samson was part of the 2024 World Cup-winning squad, he did not feature in the XI as legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli led the charge. The 2026 edition provided the redemption he had long dreamed of.

“My career has been one of the best examples of how you can dream of the destination, but you can’t script the path,” Samson remarked. “I wanted to do this years ago, but it had its own plan. It’s been more like a movie.”

The Mental “Flip”
Samson revealed that his success was rooted in a shift from individual focus to team requirements. While he admitted to focusing on his own game during the earlier New Zealand series, the World Cup sparked a mental change.

“In the World Cup, the focus became all about the team. From the Zimbabwe game onwards, I felt the team needed me,” he explained. “That’s when the shift happened. I knew I was physically and mentally ready, and I knew this moment was meant for me.”

With this victory, Samson joins an elite group of Indian cricketers with two T20 World Cup medals, cementing his legacy as a big-game performer for the national side.
