In-Form Chapman Ruled Out of New Zealand’s Second ODI Against Pakistan

New Zealand have been dealt a setback ahead of the second ODI against Pakistan, with in-form batter Mark Chapman ruled out due to a hamstring injury.

Chapman, who scored a brilliant century in the Black Caps’ 73-run win in the series opener, suffered the injury while fielding. Scans have confirmed a grade one tear, sidelining him for Wednesday’s crucial clash in Hamilton.

Tim Seifert has been called into the squad as his replacement. The wicketkeeper-batter was in top form during the T20I series against Pakistan, finishing as the leading run-scorer with 249 runs.

Chapman will return to Auckland for rehabilitation, but head coach Gary Stead remains optimistic about his return for the third ODI in Mount Maunganui on Saturday.

Usman Khan to Miss Second ODI Against New Zealand

“It’s disappointing for Mark after such a special innings in Napier, but thankfully it’s only a minor injury. We’re hopeful he’ll be fit for the final match,” Stead said.

New Zealand’s updated squad for the second ODI:
Tom Latham (c), Muhammad Abbas, Adi Ashok, Michael Bracewell, Jacob Duffy, Mitch Hay, Nick Kelly, Daryl Mitchell, Will O’Rourke, Ben Sears, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith, Will Young.
