Pakistan cricketer Imam-ul-Haq defended Babar Azam, the captain of the Green Shirts, after Ahmed Shehzad criticized his performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Imam, a panelist on Geo News show ‘Haarna Mana Hai’ with Shehzad and Imran Nazir, emphasized the importance of respect when discussing the team’s performance.

“He’s your captain. If you don’t see him as a captain, it’s okay. The world respects him, even if you don’t,” Imam said, drawing parallels between criticism towards Babar and Azam Khan’s body shaming.

Imam highlighted Babar’s contributions to the team, having played 250 international matches, and stressed on respecting his overall career, not just recent matches.

“While we’re not satisfied with the team’s performance against India, respect shouldn’t be forgotten,” Imam said.

Responding to Ahmed’s criticism of Babar as a “fake king,” Imam urged to focus on cricket discussions rather than personal attacks.

“Babar isn’t bothered by criticism; we’re here to talk cricket on Geo News,” Imam said, calling for respect regardless of one’s position in the team.
