A case contesting Mohsin Naqvi’s nomination as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman is being heard by the Islamabad High Court. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq has yet to make a decision on the case. The petitioner contends that a caretaker does not have the right to designate the PCB chairman as its patron-in-chief since the constitution makes a clear distinction between an elected prime minister and a caretaker. It’s worth noting that Naqvi was elected unopposed as the new chairman last month for a three-year term, with the election taking place at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore and officially announced by PCB Chief Election Commissioner Shah Khawar.
I am deeply honoured and humbled to have been unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. I appreciate the faith and confidence placed in me,” Naqvi uttered.
“I am fully committed to upgrading the standard of the game in the country and bringing professionalism in the administration of cricket in Pakistan.
The 45-year-old is the 37th chairman of the PCB. Before this, the PCB had shared the list of Board of Governors (BoG) members for the upcoming elections. The formation of BoG followed Paragraph 10 of the PCB Constitution 2014. Naqvi took the place of Zaka Ashraf in the BoG after being nominated by caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, who replaced the former chairman of the PCB Management Committee.
