In a major announcement, the ICC has greenlit a budget of around million for the Champions Trophy 2025, set to be hosted in Pakistan.
According to a reliable source, the ICC’s financial and commercial committee, led by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, thoroughly reviewed and approved the budget proposal submitted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in collaboration with the ICC finance department.
The budget stands at approximately million, with an additional .5 million earmarked for unforeseen expenses,
the source revealed.
The budget approval has sparked discussions, particularly regarding contingency funds, which might be used if India decides against participating in Pakistan, necessitating some matches to be relocated.
The source added that the .5 million set aside is relatively small compared to the overall budget and might be insufficient to cover the costs of shifting matches out of Pakistan.
In related news, Jay Shah, also the president of the Asian Cricket Council, recently chaired the meeting where India was awarded the T20 Asia Cup for 2025, and Bangladesh was granted the 50-over Asia Cup for 2027.
The tentative format for the upcoming Asia Cup suggests that India and Pakistan are likely to be placed in the same group, potentially facing off twice in the Super Four stage and a third time if both teams make it to the final.
Despite the logistical challenges and additional expenses incurred during the 2023 Asia Cup held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the ACC managed to turn a profit, the source noted.
