After accounting for time allowances, India were found to be two overs short of the required rate, resulting in an official sanction from the governing body.
ICC fines India for slow over-rate violation
ICC confirmed that KL Rahul and his team have been fined 10% of their match fees, in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences. As per ICC regulations, players are fined 5% of their match fees for every over they fall behind—meaning India incurred a 10% deduction.
The ICC further stated that KL Rahul accepted the sanction, preventing the need for any formal hearing. While the delayed over-rate did not favour India, who lost the second ODI, the outcome did not impact the series result.
Series still ends in India’s favour
Despite the setback, India bounced back strongly, clinching the series by securing a dominant nine-wicket victory in the final match and lifting the trophy.
Meanwhile, Harshit Rana also faced disciplinary action earlier in the series, as the pacer was fined 10% of his match fees in the opening ODI for an aggressive send-off directed at Dewald Brevis.
