In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially lifted the ban on Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) with immediate effect.
The suspension, imposed on November 10, 2023, was a consequence of SLC’s violation of its responsibilities as an ICC Member, specifically of “the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation, and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.
Following a meeting of the ICC Board on November 21, it was determined that Sri Lanka is now eligible to resume international competition, both in bilateral cricket and ICC events. However, the ongoing U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, initially scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka, has been relocated to South Africa.
Having diligently monitored the situation since the suspension, the ICC Board has expressed satisfaction that SLC has rectified its compliance with membership obligations, leading to the immediate lifting of the ban.
