In a major development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) broadcasters have proposed venues for the group-stage matches of the 2025 Champions Trophy. These broadcasters also serve as the official broadcasters for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Proposed Venues and Schedule
The much-anticipated tournament is set for February 2025, with Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Karachi being the selected venues. However, the broadcasters suggested adding another venue, stating that hosting matches at only one location might not send a positive message.
PCB’s Response
In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) supported the suggestion and proposed Rawalpindi as one of the venues. Initially, the PCB had decided to host all of India’s group-stage matches in Lahore to reduce travel for the Indian team.
Matches and Teams
India will play three group-stage matches, including:
- Against Bangladesh on February 20
- Against New Zealand on February 23
- Against Pakistan on March 1
India, Pakistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh are expected to be part of Group A.

Impact of India’s Participation
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) revealed the importance of India’s participation in the tournament. ECB Chair Richard Thompson emphasized that the absence of India would harm the tournament’s broadcasting appeal. If India refuses to travel to Pakistan, a hybrid venue model may be considered. However, the final decision will rest with the Indian government.
All other teams participating in the tournament have played in Pakistan, and the PCB sees no strong reason for India not to visit.
