Australia’s Beth Mooney Named ICC Women’s Player of the Month for January 2025

Australia’s opening batter, Beth Mooney, has been awarded the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for January 2025, following an outstanding performance in the Ashes series against England. Mooney was up against tough competition from West Indies’ Karishma Ramharack and India Under-19’s Trisha Gongadi but ultimately clinched the prestigious accolade.

This is Mooney’s first-ever ICC Player of the Month award, and it marks the second consecutive win for an Australian player, following Annabel Sutherland’s recognition in December 2024.

“It’s an honor to be named ICC Women’s Player of the Month, and I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me,” Mooney said. “January was a remarkable month for the Australian Women’s Cricket Team. Winning the Ashes at home was so special, and playing the first-ever day-night Test at the MCG in front of a record crowd for a Women’s Test is a moment we’ll never forget. This team continues to achieve incredible results, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Mooney was a key figure during both the ODI and T20I series against England, but it was her form in the T20Is that stood out. She scored two fifties, including an unbeaten 94, helping Australia to a 3-0 whitewash in the T20I series. Mooney was named Player of the Match in both the first and final T20Is, finishing as the leading run-scorer in the series.

In addition to her batting, Mooney was superb behind the stumps, taking three catches and executing a stumping while standing in for regular wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy.

Across three T20Is, Mooney scored 213 runs at an average of 106.50 and a strike rate of 146.89. She also contributed 90 runs in three ODIs at an average of 30 and a strike rate of 82.56.
