Rodrigues had starred in India’s historic win over defending champions Australia at the D.Y Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on October 30, smashing an unbeaten 127 off 134 balls while chasing a daunting 339-run target. Her innings propelled India into the final with five wickets and nine balls to spare, handing Australia their first World Cup loss since 2017.
Speaking at the WBBL match, Rodrigues said:
“I was not sure if Australia will allow me to cross the border after the semifinals. But honestly, everyone has been so warm and welcoming, and everyone is so happy in general for the growth of women’s cricket. We know that it’s going to change the game massively, not just in India but all over the world.”
India, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, went on to create history by winning their first Women’s World Cup, defeating South Africa in the final. Rodrigues, however, could only manage 24 runs, but India’s total of 298 proved enough to secure a 52-run victory.
Quiet Start to WBBL 2025
Rodrigues began her WBBL 2025 campaign with a modest outing, scoring just 6 runs off 9 balls, dismissed by Alice Capsey of the Melbourne Renegades. For Brisbane Heat, only Nadine de Klerk (40), Chinelle Henry (29), and Georgia Redmayne (16) reached double figures, with the team managing 133/20 overs.
In reply, the Renegades were 66/3 after 7.3 overs when rain interrupted play, and they were eventually declared winners via the DLS method.
