Ganesh’s remarks came after Nissanka’s modest 19 off 15 balls against Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 5, where he was dismissed by Mukesh Choudhary.
The former cricketer pointed out that Delhi have a wealth of Indian batting talent in their squad and suggested alternatives at the top of the order. He named players like Prithvi Shaw, Nitish Rana, and Abishek Porel as potential opening partners for KL Rahul, while also advocating for David Miller to return to the middle order.
In a sharp post on X (formerly Twitter), Ganesh sarcastically referred to the DC think tank as “geniuses,” questioning their decision-making. “There’s so much Indian batting talent available in Delhi’s camp. They can easily open with Shaw, Rana, or Porel alongside KL, and have Miller in the middle order. Instead, they play Nissanka at the top and drop Miller. How can this be a serious cricket team?” he wrote.
Nissanka has featured in nine matches for Delhi this season, scoring 228 runs at an average of 25.33 and a strike rate of 156.17. Meanwhile, Rana has contributed 217 runs in eight innings batting at No. 3, averaging 27.13 with a strike rate of 156.12.
Porel has had limited opportunities, appearing in just one match as an Impact Player, while Shaw is yet to feature in IPL 2026 despite being part of the squad.
