Cricket fans witnessed history on Monday as 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi stunned the Indian Premier League with a blistering century for the Rajasthan Royals, becoming the youngest player ever to score a T20 hundred.

Suryavanshi’s incredible knock of 101 came off just 38 balls in an eight-wicket win over the Gujarat Titans. He smashed seven fours and 11 sixes, bringing up his century in just 35 balls—the second-fastest ton in IPL history, trailing only Chris Gayle’s iconic 30-ball hundred.

Suryavanshi’s innings has already drawn comparisons to the game’s greats, despite this being only his third outing in the IPL. He had already caught attention earlier in the tournament when he launched his very first ball in the league for six and followed it with a promising 34 against the Lucknow Super Giants.

On the latest episode of The ICC Review, former India coach and legend Ravi Shastri shared his thoughts on the teenage prodigy. Speaking with host Sanjana Ganesan, Shastri said he was immediately impressed.

Shastri also predicted that tougher tests await the young opener, especially as bowlers begin to target him more aggressively.

Despite the early hype, Shastri urged patience and perspective.

“Let him enjoy the game, let him grow. It’s how he handles the tough days that will define him.”

Suryavanshi’s fairytale start has already made waves, but the cricketing world will now watch closely to see how the young talent handles the inevitable pressure and expectations ahead.
