Currently the fourth-highest run-scorer this season, the young batter has already faced criticism over alleged unprofessional behavior and even bizarre claims suggesting he uses an AI-enabled chip in his bat. Now, a fresh controversy has emerged, bringing serious allegations into focus.

Karnataka-based social activist CM Shivakumar Nayak has threatened legal action against Rajasthan Royals, accusing the franchise of child labour. Speaking during a debate on a Kannada news channel, Nayak claimed that Sooryavanshi, who is reportedly still a minor, is being exploited.

“This 15-year-old boy is being exploited. He is just a child, and they have brought him into the IPL to play professional cricket. This is nothing but child labour. At this age, he should be focusing on his education rather than competing in a high-pressure league,” Nayak said.

He further argued that allowing minors to play in such a high-profile tournament could set a dangerous precedent, potentially exposing young talents to early professional pressure and exploitation. Nayak also stated that he plans to file a police complaint against the franchise for allegedly violating child rights and labour laws.

Despite the growing controversy, Sooryavanshi’s performances on the field have been exceptional. He has scored 404 runs so far in IPL 2026, maintaining an average of 40.40 and an astonishing strike rate of 237.65.

Hailing from Samastipur, Sooryavanshi’s rise has been nothing short of remarkable. He was signed by Rajasthan Royals in the 2025 auction for ₹1.10 crore, becoming the youngest player ever to secure an IPL contract at just 13. He made his debut against Lucknow Super Giants on April 19, 2025, aged 14 years and 23 days, setting the record as the youngest debutant in IPL history.

Retained ahead of the 2026 season, the youngster now earns ₹7.5 lakh per match under the match fee structure introduced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India from IPL 2025.
