‘He Has MS Dhoni-Like Composure’ — USA Cricketer Praises Indian Captain Suryakumar Yadav

India captain Suryakumar Yadav’s composed masterclass against the USA in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has drawn high praise from an unlikely source: USA spinner Harmeet Singh.

In a tense group-stage clash in Mumbai, India found themselves in trouble early, losing key wickets and teetering under pressure. Suryakumar, however, anchored the innings with an unbeaten 84 off 49 balls, steering India to a competitive total and keeping their campaign on track.

Speaking after the match, Harmeet Singh lauded Suryakumar’s temperament, drawing a striking comparison to one of cricket’s most iconic captains.

“He has got the poise now, which MS Dhoni also had later in his career. The flair that he had as a stroke-player, he played a sensible innings, finished the game, and played a proper knock,” Harmeet said.

Harmeet also highlighted the maturity that comes with experience, noting that Suryakumar now consistently displays the kind of calm and calculated approach that players like Virat Kohli exhibited at their peak.

“The maturity which players like Virat have… he played a matured knock, and that is what comes with experience and the kind of responsibility he has been given. He is doing a great job,” Harmeet added.

Legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag also praised Suryakumar’s innings, calling it one of the best of his career.

“Imagine if India had been all out for just 100, it wouldn’t have been fair to say a team like the USA beat India. They’ve also qualified for the World Cup. That’s why I feel it was one of Suryakumar Yadav’s best knocks. Focus on the ball, not the bowler. If it pitches in the right area, respect it. If you go for your shots recklessly, you risk getting out,” Sehwag explained.

With this crucial win over the USA, the Men in Blue have opened their T20 World Cup campaign on a positive note and will now face Namibia on February 12 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
