‘Have a chat with him’ — veteran India national cricket team batter weighs in on Jasprit Bumrah’s performance

Jasprit Bumrah’s struggles in the Indian Premier League 2026 season continued to spark concern after another wicketless outing for Mumbai Indians against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium.

The star pacer conceded 45 runs without taking a wicket — the seventh time this season he has gone wicketless — raising fresh questions over his workload management and on-field utilisation.

Former India cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy suggested that the team management should have an honest conversation with Bumrah about his physical and mental condition.

She emphasized that with senior figures like captain Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma around, the team is well-placed to assess whether Bumrah needs a short break to return stronger. According to her, a transparent discussion could help determine if the pacer is truly operating at full capacity or requires rest.

Echoing similar concerns, ex-India all-rounder Sanjay Bangar said the franchise might need to make a tough call depending on their priorities for the remainder of the season. He noted that if Mumbai Indians are willing to compromise on results, resting Bumrah for the remaining matches could be an option.

During the match, Bumrah was introduced early and had a difficult start, conceding heavily in his first two overs. Although he regained some control later in the innings, his overall spell highlighted an unusual dip in effectiveness.

Bangar pointed out that the issue may not be a lack of effort but rather how Bumrah is being used by the team management. He observed that the pacer appeared to be trying hard, but questionable bowling changes may have contributed to his struggles.

Despite Bumrah’s off day, Mumbai Indians secured a comfortable victory, successfully chasing down a daunting 229-run target. Ryan Rickelton starred with the bat and was named Player of the Match for his match-winning performance.
