Hasaranga Injury Prompts Sri Lanka to Add Surprise Spin Option to Pakistan T20I Tri-Series Squad

Hasaranga, who sustained a hamstring strain during the recent ODI series against Pakistan, is still undergoing rehabilitation. With the leg-spinner unavailable, Viyaskanth has been brought in to bolster the squad for the tri-series, which also features Zimbabwe as the third team.

Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, 23, hails from Jaffna and has appeared in one T20I for Sri Lanka, picking up one wicket for 28 runs in his four-over spell. Hasaranga, meanwhile, played a crucial role in the ODI series against Pakistan, scoring 96 runs and claiming three wickets across the first two matches. His absence is certainly a setback for the Lankans as they look to make an impact in the tri-series.

Adding to the squad changes, Sri Lankan skipper Charith Asalanka will miss the tri-series after flying home due to illness. Veteran all-rounder Dasun Shanaka will captain the team in his absence.

Sri Lanka’s T20I Tri-Series Squad:
Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Kamil Mishara, Dasun Shanaka (c), Kamindu Mendis, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Janith Liyanage, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, Dushan Hemantha, Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Thushara, Eshan Malinga

Sri Lanka will begin their tri-series campaign against Zimbabwe on November 20. Each team will face the others twice, with the top two sides advancing to the final.
