Speaking ahead of the tri-series opener against Zimbabwe, Salman highlighted the need to give game time to players shortlisted for the T20 World Cup while exploring multidimensional options within the squad.
Middle-Order Conundrum and Samad’s Opportunity
Addressing the media, Salman admitted that Pakistan’s middle order remains a work in progress. He acknowledged Hasan Nawaz’s poor form and subsequent exclusion from the T20I setup but expressed confidence in Abdul Samad to fill the gap as a power-hitting finisher.
“In the middle order, we are not getting the performances we would like. Hasan Nawaz is not here [with the team], but I have faith he will return soon. In his place, we have Abdul Samad, who bats at number six and can play the role of a finisher,” Salman said, as quoted by Geo Super.
His comments strongly hinted at Samad’s inclusion in Pakistan’s playing XI for the opening match against Zimbabwe.
All-Round Options
Salman also advocated for the strategic use of all-rounders like Mohammad Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf, noting their ability to contribute both with bat and ball.
“When you have all-rounders who can bowl four overs, why not use them?” he added.
Tri-Series Schedule
Pakistan will face Zimbabwe in their first match before taking on Sri Lanka on November 22. Each team will play four group-stage games, with the top two sides advancing to the final on November 29.
