Young batter Hasan Nawaz has been dropped following a poor run against South Africa, with in-form domestic star Abdul Samad earning a call-up in his place.
Head coach Mike Hesson confirmed the decision, explaining that Nawaz would benefit more from playing domestic cricket than warming the bench.
“Hasan Nawaz will be going back to domestic cricket. Rather than sitting on the sidelines, we want him to regain confidence. He’s a talented player but needs more time in the middle,” Hesson told reporters.
Why Hasan Nawaz was dropped
Nawaz’s ODI struggles have continued since the Asia Cup, where he was dropped midway through the tournament after a couple of low scores. In the first ODI against South Africa, he managed only a single run before being left out for the remaining games. Given his inconsistent performances, the management has decided to let him work on his form in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy to rebuild confidence and rhythm.
What Abdul Samad offers
Abdul Samad, known for his aggressive middle-order batting, brings experience and form from Pakistan’s domestic circuit. Hesson believes Samad’s natural role in the middle order could help stabilize and strengthen Pakistan’s batting lineup, which has struggled for momentum in recent matches.
Pakistan will be hoping that Samad’s inclusion adds the spark and composure they need heading into the Sri Lanka series.
