Deol leads UP Warriorz to victory
Harleen remained unbeaten on 64 off just 39 balls, anchoring the chase and helping UP Warriorz secure a comfortable seven-wicket win under captain Meg Lanning. This victory was especially important after the team had struggled in its earlier matches.
Her comeback was even more remarkable given the controversy in the previous match against Delhi Capitals, where she was retired out on 47 from 36 balls to make way for power-hitter Chloe Tryon. The decision sparked criticism, but Harleen maintained her focus and returned stronger.
A composed and intelligent innings
Against Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians, Harleen showcased maturity, timing, and smart shot selection rather than attempting to hit every ball for power. Her calm yet effective approach helped steer her team to victory, earning her the Player of the Match award.
Harleen reflects on being retired out
During the post-match presentation, she addressed the earlier incident, showing understanding and respect for the team’s decision.
“Yesterday also I was batting well, but as you saw today, how Chloe can change the scenario. For me, I just took it in that way… It gave me a lot of confidence, in fact, because the first two games didn’t go my way,” Harleen said.
She added, “I was trying to overhit earlier, but today it was more about timing-based shots. That approach worked well, and I’m happy with how I managed it.”
Harmanpreet Kaur praises Deol’s comeback
Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur also lauded Harleen’s mindset, saying, “Surprised to see she was retired in the last game, but I think she came up with a very positive mindset, and I hope she’ll continue that.”
Despite the win, UP Warriorz remain at the bottom of the WPL points table after four matches, while Mumbai Indians hold second place.
