Kishan, who has been described as a “man of comebacks,” marked his return to ODI cricket in style with a blistering 125 off just 79 balls. His innings featured 14 fours and seven sixes, powering India to a commanding position and helping them secure an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Swann was particularly impressed by the ease with which Kishan settled back into the side after a long absence.
“The fact that he’s come back into the team and looks like he’s never been away is remarkable,” Swann said on JioStar. He further added that Kishan is “the sort of player who will do whatever job you ask of him without any complaints.”
The former England spinner noted the maturity in Kishan’s innings, pointing out that he initially played cautiously before shifting gears with devastating effect, reaching his hundred in just 29 balls after his fifty. According to Swann, this acceleration highlighted Kishan’s evolving temperament and adaptability at the highest level.
Swann also praised Kishan’s shot selection and technical improvement, especially his ability to play controlled lofted drives over the extra cover region. He described the knock as a blend of aggression and intelligence rather than reckless hitting.
“It wasn’t crazy slogging. He picked his spots, forced bowlers to adjust their lines, and played those beautiful lofted extra-cover drives. That shot is something he has clearly worked on over the last couple of years,” Swann said.
Kishan’s century not only reinforced his credentials in the ODI setup but also played a key role in India’s series-clinching victory over Afghanistan, further strengthening his case as a long-term option in the national side.
