Sooryavanshi has already made history by earning a call-up to India’s T20I squad for the tours of Ireland and England, becoming the youngest player ever selected for India at just 15 years and 71 days. His selection places him on track to break long-standing age records in Indian cricket, previously held by legends like Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 16 years and 205 days.
Swann, speaking on JioHotstar, said the youngster deserves immediate opportunities at the highest level, starting with the two-match T20I series in Ireland beginning June 26 in Belfast.
“I am glad he has been picked, for the sake of world cricket. He is the box-office man of the moment. I think he should play against Ireland,” Swann said.
The former off-spinner admitted he initially had doubts about whether the teenager could handle top-level bowling, but Sooryavanshi quickly changed his perception with fearless performances in IPL 2026.
“I knew he had talent… but I thought world-class bowlers would find him out,” Swann said, before praising his dominance against elite attacks.
Swann pointed particularly to Sooryavanshi’s stunning 97-run knock in the IPL Eliminator, calling it one of the most destructive innings he has ever witnessed. Facing top bowlers with ease, the youngster convinced Swann of his exceptional ability.
“As he was smashing Pat Cummins all over the ground, I was thinking, ‘This kid is the real deal,’” he added.
Swann further emphasized that India should not hesitate to integrate him into the senior setup, calling him a potential long-term superstar for the next two decades.
Sooryavanshi’s maiden call-up follows a sensational IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals, where he topped the scoring charts with 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.30, including one century and five half-centuries, cementing his status as one of cricket’s most exciting young talents.
