The 40-year-old right-hander made his First-Class debut for Kent against Oxford UCCE in 2004 and has enjoyed a long and successful career at both domestic and international level.
Denly made his England debut in an ODI against Ireland in August 2009, scoring 67 on his first appearance. He went on to represent England 44 times across all three formats, scoring close to 1,400 runs and taking 10 wickets. His final international appearance came in a T20I against Australia in September 2020.
One of the most memorable performances of Denly’s career came during Kent’s T20 Blast clash against Surrey at The Oval in 2018. He smashed 102 off 63 deliveries before producing a stunning hat-trick with the ball, including the dismissal of current England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.
“After an incredible journey in professional cricket, the time has come for me to announce my retirement from the game at the end of the 2026 campaign. Cricket has given me more than I could ever have imagined,” Denly wrote on Kent’s official website.
“From making my debut for Kent to representing England on the international stage, every moment has been a privilege. Representing Kent has always been a source of immense pride. The club will always be my second home, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities, friendships and memories it has given me,” he added.
Denly has played 729 professional matches across the three formats. He has scored 14,228 runs in First-Class cricket, including 32 centuries, while also accumulating 7,203 runs in T20 cricket.
Although he is stepping away from playing, Denly has indicated that he hopes to remain involved in the sport and help nurture the next generation of cricketers.
“While I’m stepping away from playing, my passion for cricket remains as strong as ever. I look forward to hopefully staying involved in the game and giving back however I can, helping the next generation enjoy the same opportunities that I’ve been fortunate enough to experience,” Denly said.
