Former Abu Dhabi T10 Assistant Coach Handed Six-Year Ban for Anti-Corruption Violations

Sunny Dhillon, a former assistant coach in the Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League, has been banned from all cricket-related activities for six years due to breaches of the Emirates Cricket Board’s (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code during the 2021 tournament.

Dhillon was among eight individuals charged last year for attempting to manipulate match outcomes. Following an investigation by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO), Dhillon was found guilty of three major violations:

  1. Article 2.1.1: Attempting to fix or improperly influence matches in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
  2. Article 2.4.4: Failing to report approaches to engage in corrupt conduct.
  3. Article 2.4.6: Refusing to cooperate with the anti-corruption investigation without valid justification.

The six-year ban is backdated to September 13, 2023, when Dhillon was provisionally suspended. The tribunal reached its decision after reviewing evidence, including written and oral submissions, ultimately concluding Dhillon’s guilt on all counts.

This case highlights the ECB’s firm stance on protecting cricket’s integrity and punishing corrupt practices. The ICC and DACO’s swift action during the tournament disrupted potential manipulations, reinforcing the importance of vigilant enforcement of anti-corruption measures.

The ruling serves as a clear warning to all players and officials: cricket’s governing bodies will not tolerate any actions that compromise the sport’s credibility. The ECB remains committed to maintaining transparency, fair play, and trust in the game.
