After a disappointing start in the Global T20 Canada tournament, Shakib Al Hasan and Shoriful Islam’s Bangla Tigers Mississauga bounced back with a solid 22-run win over the Vancouver Knights.

Both players were looking to make an impact following their opening loss to the Montreal Tigers, where Shakib remained wicketless. However, in today’s game, both Shakib and Shoriful displayed impressive bowling performances, contributing significantly to their team’s victory.

Pakistan’s Iftekhar Ahmed played a pivotal role, scoring a brisk 50 off 40 balls, while Dilon Heyliger added a quickfire 27 off 19 balls, helping Mississauga post a total of 152 for 7. Shakib, unfortunately, managed only two runs from four deliveries before being dismissed leg-before by Sandeep Lamichhane.

In the bowling department, Shoriful delivered two economical overs during the Powerplay, conceding just two runs. Shakib also bowled effectively, giving away only one run in his Powerplay over. Later, Shakib’s bowling shone as he picked up key wickets, dismissing Reza Hendricks and Asif Ali on consecutive deliveries in the eighth over, and later taking Dwaine Pretorius in the 18th over. He finished with outstanding figures of 3 for 10 in four overs. Shoriful also contributed with figures of 1 for 12 in his four overs, as Vancouver was restricted to 130 for 6.

Reflecting on the game, Shoriful said,

Iftekhar bhai gave us a good partnership along with a local star, and in bowling, we took crucial wickets during the Powerplay which turned the game in our favor.

He added,

It’s a short tournament with little time to dwell on past games. We played yesterday and again today. Instead of focusing on what went wrong, we concentrated on the task ahead, which helped us perform well. It feels great to contribute to the team’s success.
