The 27-year-old was one of the standout performers in BBL|15, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 466 runs. His performances also earned him the Simon Katich Medal as the competition’s best overseas player.

Allen’s move adds further firepower to a Melbourne Stars batting line-up that already features white-ball stars Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. The Stars remain the only BBL franchise yet to lift the championship trophy.

Allen initially struggled during his first season with Perth, scoring 181 runs across 10 innings. However, he produced a remarkable turnaround in BBL|15, smashing a record 38 sixes and earning a place in the Team of the Tournament.

His best performance came against the Melbourne Renegades, when he blasted 101 off 53 balls. He also made valuable contributions of 49 and 36 in Perth’s finals campaign as the Scorchers secured their sixth BBL title.

Since then, Allen has continued to make an impact across global T20 cricket. He smashed an unbeaten century from just 33 balls in New Zealand’s T20 World Cup semi-final against South Africa and later scored 349 runs for Kolkata Knight Riders in his first IPL season, including a century against Delhi Capitals.

Speaking about his move to Melbourne, Allen expressed his excitement about joining the Stars and playing his home games at the MCG.

The explosive opener now becomes the 12th player in Cameron White’s 18-man BBL|16 squad. His arrival gives the Stars a formidable top-order combination alongside Maxwell and Stoinis as they continue their quest for a maiden BBL title.
