FIFA World Cup Compares Indian Batter to Lamine Yamal After IND vs ENG 2025 T20I Series.

The FIFA World Cup drew parallels between Team India opener Abhishek Sharma and 17-year-old Spanish football prodigy Lamine Yamal following the recently concluded T20I series between India and England.

Abhishek earned widespread acclaim for his explosive 135-run knock in the final T20I on Sunday, February 2. The southpaw smashed his second T20I century in just 37 balls—the second-fastest by an Indian after Rohit Sharma’s 35-ball ton against Sri Lanka in 2017. His 135-run innings also set a new record for the highest individual score in T20Is for India.

On Monday, February 3, FIFA World Cup’s official Instagram account acknowledged Abhishek’s heroics, comparing him to Barcelona star Yamal and predicting a bright future for both rising talents.

While Abhishek shined in the India-England T20I series, Yamal has been making waves in football, scoring 10 goals and providing 16 assists in 29 appearances for Barcelona this season. The young right winger recently grabbed headlines for his sensational 14-second dribble in Barcelona’s 1-0 La Liga win over Deportivo Alavés on Sunday, February 2.

His best performance, however, came in the final match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, where his aggressive stroke play powered India to a massive total of 247. England crumbled under pressure, getting bowled out for just 97, as India secured a dominant 150-run victory to wrap up a 4-1 series win over Jos Buttler’s side.

With the T20I series concluded, both teams now turn their focus to the upcoming three-match ODI series. The first game is set to take place at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday, February 6.
