Sciver-Brunt, widely regarded as one of England’s most influential players heading into the tournament, missed recent white-ball series against New Zealand and India after sustaining the injury while playing for The Blaze in the One Day Cup. However, she is now on track to be fit for selection for the World Cup on home soil.
The 33-year-old stated that there is no pressure on her to immediately resume her all-rounder role, as England already possess a well-balanced bowling attack. She explained that the focus is on managing her workload carefully during the early phase of the tournament.
“There’s no sort of pressure to be an allrounder at this stage. We’ve got a very balanced bowling attack… so there’s not any pressure for me to bowl in the tournament,” Sciver-Brunt said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. She added that she hopes to contribute with the ball later in the competition, depending on her fitness and match demands.
Sciver-Brunt also highlighted that the team management is taking a cautious approach, especially with multiple matches in a short span during the warm-up phase and early group games. She confirmed that all her recovery sessions have gone smoothly and pain-free so far.
Despite her absence, England have maintained strong form, securing T20I series wins over both New Zealand and India under the leadership of Charlie Dean, heading into the tournament with confidence.
England have been placed in a competitive group alongside Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. They will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka on Friday, June 12, at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
