England Bolster Caribbean Squad with Jordan Cox and Rehan Ahmed Ahead of White-Ball Series

England have strengthened their squad for the upcoming Caribbean tour by adding young talents Jordan Cox and Rehan Ahmed to their white-ball line-up. The tour, starting next Thursday, will see both players join the squad after completing their duties with England’s Test team in Pakistan.

Cox, an Essex wicketkeeper-batter, is scheduled to fly home after the opening day of the Test series finale in Rawalpindi, before heading to Antigua on Monday. Rehan Ahmed, who has been named in the XI for the third Test, will arrive in the Caribbean later and is unlikely to feature in the opening ODI against the West Indies.

Jordan Cox Set for Key Role in Caribbean and New Zealand Tours

Having recently made his international debut in England’s T20I series against Australia, Jordan Cox is in line for further opportunities. With Jos Buttler sidelined from the ODI leg due to a calf injury, Cox is expected to earn his first ODI cap in the Caribbean. He will also play a crucial role as England’s backup wicketkeeper, filling in for Jamie Smith during the New Zealand tour, with Smith on paternity leave.

However, Cox’s stint in the Caribbean may be brief. He is expected to leave early to prepare for England’s Test series in New Zealand, where he is likely to make his Test debut. He will join the squad ahead of their warm-up match in Queenstown before the first Test begins on November 27.

Rehan Ahmed’s Impact to Come Later in the Tour

Rehan Ahmed, the teenage leg-spinner, will miss the start of the Caribbean tour due to his involvement in the third Test in Pakistan. His arrival will come after the first ODI, and he may not be available until the T20I series. Rehan is one of three wrist-spinners in the squad, alongside the experienced Adil Rashid and uncapped Jafer Chohan.

England had planned to add two players from their Test squad to the Caribbean tour, and the inclusion of Cox and Rehan follows that strategy. With Liam Livingstone named as captain for the ODI series in Buttler’s absence, Essex’s Michael Pepper has also been called up as additional cover.

West Indies Await Squad Announcement

While England’s squad is taking shape, West Indies have yet to announce their team for the series. They are currently 2-0 down in an ODI series against Sri Lanka, following a 2-1 loss in the T20Is. The first ODI against England is set for November 31 in Antigua, with the tour concluding with the fifth T20I in St Lucia on November 17.

England ODI and T20I Squads:
Jos Buttler (T20I captain), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Jafer Chohan, Jordan Cox, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone (ODI captain), Saqib Mahmood, Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, John Turner.
