Dhaka Capitals Appoint Shoaib Akhtar as Mentor Ahead of Upcoming BPL Season

The franchise has announced former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar as their mentor, a pre-season decision that promises to add experience and firepower to the team’s setup.

Shoaib Akhtar Begins a New Chapter with Dhaka Capitals
Since its inception, the BPL has been a premier platform for unearthing raw cricketing talent in Bangladesh. Each season brings new excitement, and this year, the Dhaka Capitals have made a strategic move by roping in Akhtar. With his vast experience and sharp cricketing acumen, the legendary pacer is expected to provide guidance and boost the team’s performance.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Dhaka Capitals CEO Atik Fahad explained the reasoning behind the appointment:
“We are taking him as a mentor for the Dhaka Capitals for the upcoming edition of the BPL. We have chosen him firstly because of his brand value and secondly to motivate the players.”

Role in the Tournament
Shoaib Akhtar, who claimed 444 international wickets across formats for Pakistan, will mentor the team in a capacity similar to former spinner Saeed Ajmal last year. According to Fahad, Akhtar will initially visit for a few days for endorsements and, during the season, will observe games and provide guidance to players.

In a related development, the BPL Governing Council announced a schedule change, moving the 2026 auction from November 23 to November 30, adding another twist to the lead-up to the season.
