Devajit Saikia Named Acting BCCI Secretary, Replaces Jay Shah
Devajit Saikia has been appointed as the acting secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by President Roger Binny. Saikia steps in following Jay Shah’s move to take over as the new ICC President.
Hailing from Assam, Saikia is a former first-class cricketer and currently serves as the BCCI joint secretary. Binny exercised his constitutional authority to appoint Saikia in this interim role until a permanent secretary is selected in accordance with BCCI regulations.
In a letter addressed to Saikia, Binny referenced clause 7(1)(d) of the BCCI constitution, which allows the president to delegate the secretary’s functions in case of a vacancy.
“The president shall, in the event of a vacancy or indisposition, delegate the functions to another office bearer until the vacancy is duly filled or the indisposition ceases,” Binny wrote.

Binny expressed confidence in Saikia, stating, “I delegate the functions of secretary to you till the post is filled up as per BCCI rules and regulations. I am confident you will perform the duties to the best of your abilities and with aplomb.”
Saikia, who is also the Advocate General of Assam, is expected to hold the position until September next year, by which time a permanent appointment will be made.
