According to a report by The Indian Express, a senior official of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) is suspected to be involved in the illegal sale of more than 1,000 complimentary IPL tickets, some of which were reportedly sold for prices exceeding ₹80,000.
The Delhi Police have already arrested four individuals in connection with the racket, which came to light following complaints of tickets being sold at inflated prices ahead of the April 27 match between DC and RCB.
Investigators believe the operation was centrally coordinated, with a source describing it as a “systematic racket” allegedly led by a top DDCA official. The pricing structure reportedly varied depending on the profile of the match and star players involved, with rates increasing sharply closer to matchday.
As per BCCI guidelines, home franchises are required to allocate around 10–15 percent of match tickets to the host state association. In this case, authorities suspect that over 1,000 such complimentary tickets were diverted and sold illegally through the black market.
The source further revealed that for high-demand fixtures featuring star players like Virat Kohli, individual tickets were reportedly sold for as high as ₹80,000, while other matches saw prices starting from around ₹8,000.
“Before the Royal Challengers Bengaluru game, with Virat Kohli as the main attraction, tickets were sold for at least ₹80,000. The price varied between ₹8,000 and ₹80,000 depending on demand and match profile,” the source was quoted as saying.
The development comes shortly after a separate incident in Bengaluru, where a canteen worker at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium was arrested in connection with a similar black-market ticketing racket, allegedly involving bulk corporate ticket bookings that were later resold illegally.
