On February 7, in the SA20 2024 Eliminator between the Paarl Royals and the Joburg Super Kings, David Miller made history in South African cricket. He became the first South African batter to surpass 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. Representing the Paarl Royals at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, Miller achieved this milestone with ease, needing 28 runs to reach the impressive feat.
Before this match, Miller was among three South African batters, along with Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers, who had scored 9,000 or more runs in T20 cricket. By joining the elite club of 12 batters with over 10,000 runs, Miller now shares this achievement with cricket greats like Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, and others.
Throughout the SA20 2024 season, Miller had a solid batting performance for the Royals, amassing 240 runs in 10 matches at an average of 30 and a strike-rate of 118.22. In the Eliminator, he batted at No.6, scoring 47 runs off 40 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes. Despite his efforts, the Royals faced a setback in the bowling department, with the Super Kings securing a comprehensive 9-wicket victory by chasing down the target with 40 balls to spare.
