Darren Gough has announced his departure from the position of managing director of cricket at Yorkshire.
The former England fast bowler took up the role in 2021 amidst the turmoil caused by racism allegations within the sport.
Gough stated:
“It has been a tremendous privilege to serve my childhood club over the past two seasons.
“Stepping into this role during a particularly challenging period, we’ve worked tirelessly to stabilize the situation and enhance our cricket department, aiming to elevate ourselves to the top echelon of English cricket.
“During my tenure, we’ve accomplished significant milestones that I’m immensely proud of. The men’s squad has undergone a complete overhaul, with substantial improvements made behind the scenes across various support areas. This has positioned both the men’s team and the Northern Diamonds in a much stronger position to compete effectively in the future.
“Our performance pathway is thriving and continues to set the standard nationally. Additionally, there’s a palpable enthusiasm surrounding the developments in the women’s game, and I believe the upcoming years will be transformative.
“After discussions with the club, I feel that now is the appropriate time for me to step aside from my role and offer someone else the opportunity to lead our playing squads forward. I extend my gratitude to all our players, staff, members, and fans for their unwavering support over the past few seasons, and I wish them all the best for the future.
“I will always remain a staunch supporter of Yorkshire Cricket and eagerly anticipate returning to watch our teams in action in the years to come.”
Stephen Vaughan, Chief Executive Officer of YCCC, remarked:
“It has been a pleasure collaborating with Darren during my tenure in this role.
“His contributions in stabilizing the club and driving our playing squads forward have been invaluable. As a proud Yorkshireman deeply invested in the club, Darren’s dedication to his role has been evident. The groundwork laid by Darren over the past two seasons has laid a solid foundation, and we are grateful for his time, commitment, and professionalism.”
Colin Graves, Chair of YCCC, added:
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to Darren for his efforts over the past few seasons.
“As a club legend in his own right, having enjoyed successful stints as a player and now as Managing Director of Cricket, Darren has played a pivotal role in guiding us through challenging times. We wish him the very best for his future endeavors and eagerly anticipate his return to Headingley in the future.”
