In a surprising move, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have requested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) consider MS Dhoni as an uncapped player for the upcoming IPL 2025 mega-auctions.

ESPNcricinfo reports that the five-time IPL champions are pushing to reinstate an old rule, which allowed players retired from international cricket for five years to be classified as uncapped in the league.

This rule, however, was abolished by the IPL committee before the 2022 mega-auctions.

Players retired from international cricket for over five years should be considered uncapped in the IPL,

ESPNcricinfo quoted.

Dhoni, who last played for India in 2019 and announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020 through a heartfelt Instagram post, would fit this criteria if the rule is reinstated.
