Fans will have to wait a bit longer to see their legendary skipper in action, as Dhoni has been ruled out of the upcoming match. Viswanathan confirmed that while the team is optimistic about his recovery, it is currently impossible to provide a definite timeline for his return.
“MS is undergoing rehab, and it will take some time. We can’t say how much time,” Viswanathan told Cricbuzz on Tuesday, April 7.
Dhoni, 44, is recuperating in Chennai with his family and is being closely monitored by a dedicated support staff, including a physiotherapist and a masseur, to aid his recovery.
Dewald Brevis Expected to Return
Viswanathan also provided an update on South African batter Dewald Brevis, who has missed all of CSK’s matches so far. CSK have yet to win a game this season, and Brevis’ availability could be a crucial boost. The CEO indicated that Brevis is likely to feature against Delhi Capitals, depending on his progress in the coming days.
“If Brevis is fit, we are hoping he will be available for the next game. We have a few days before the match to assess him,” Viswanathan said.
Should Brevis return, CSK may make changes to the playing XI to meet the four-overseas player limit, potentially bringing in Jamie Overton or adjusting the roles of Noor Ahmad and Akeal Hosein. Two changes are expected once Brevis is deemed match-ready.
