The appointment is expected to be part of a major overhaul of Delhi Capitals’ coaching setup. Sourav Ganguly is set to take over as head coach, with Yuvraj Singh joining as assistant coach, while former India spinner Amit Mishra is expected to handle the spin-bowling department.
Delhi Capitals finished sixth in IPL 2026 with seven wins and seven defeats and missed out on the playoffs for the second consecutive season. The franchise’s coaching reshuffle is aimed at improving its fortunes in IPL 2027.
Vaas brings a wealth of experience to the role. The former Sri Lanka fast bowler played 111 Tests and 322 ODIs, taking 355 Test wickets and 400 ODI wickets. He was also part of Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup-winning squad.
Since retiring from international cricket, Vaas has worked in various bowling-coaching roles with Sri Lanka and franchise teams. His experience in developing fast bowlers could prove valuable for Delhi Capitals as they look to strengthen their pace attack.
His presence at the franchise’s New Delhi camp and trials indicates that he is already involved in preparations for the upcoming IPL season, even though the official appointment is yet to be confirmed.
