Cameron White, former Australia white-ball captain, has been appointed as the head coach of the Melbourne Renegades for the BBL. White signed a three-year contract to replace David Saker, who left in May after the team finished seventh last season.
At 40, this will be White’s first head-coaching role, although he has spent the last two years working with Sydney Sixers boss Greg Shipperd and was previously an assistant coach at the Adelaide Strikers.
The Renegades’ roster includes star players like Jake Fraser-McGurk, spinners Adam Zampa and Nathan Lyon, and new recruit Josh Brown.
White expressed his excitement about returning to the Renegades, where he has many great memories as a player. He looks forward to working with the talented mix of young and experienced players on the team.
The Renegades have the second pick in the BBL overseas draft order announced recently.
As a player, White represented Australia 142 times in all three formats, mainly excelling as a middle-order batter in white-ball cricket. He captained the T20I team six times and the ODI team once. He was part of the Australian team that won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2009 and played a key role in the Renegades’ only BBL championship in 2019.
White is also Victoria’s longest-serving Sheffield Shield captain, with over 7000 first-class runs from his debut in the 2000-2001 season until his last match in 2019.
