Australia have suffered a major blow ahead of their ODI series against India, with young all-rounder Cameron Green sidelined due to a low-grade side soreness.

Cameron Green Ruled Out of ODI Series Against India; Australia Names Unexpected Replacement

In his place, the experienced right-handed batter Marnus Labuschagne has been recalled to the squad, marking a surprising return to Australia’s 50-over setup.

Labuschagne Earns Recall on Domestic Form
Labuschagne had been dropped from Australia’s ODI side following inconsistent performances, scoring just 241 runs across 12 innings since 2024. However, his red-hot form in the ongoing domestic season has forced selectors to reconsider. Across three innings in the Australian domestic competitions, Labuschagne amassed 237 runs at an average of 79, including two commanding centuries, with a strike rate of 103.95.

The 66-cap ODI veteran has accumulated 1,871 runs at an average of 34.6 and a strike rate of 83.6 in his career. His prolific domestic form now earns him a comeback as Green’s replacement for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India.

Cameron Green’s Injury and Implications
Green, who has been focusing on batting since recovering from a series of career-threatening injuries, had been aiming to return as a genuine all-rounder. The side soreness has put those plans on hold. According to Cricket.com.au, his absence is precautionary, and he could return during Western Australia’s next Sheffield Shield match against South Australia, starting October 28.

Green’s injury could also impact his value in the upcoming IPL mini-auction. Having previously played as a key all-rounder for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, his limited ability to bowl may affect franchise interest.

Australia’s List of Unavailable Players
Green joins a growing list of Australians unavailable for the ODI series. Alex Carey has been released to represent South Australia in the Sheffield Shield, Josh Inglis is out of the first ODI with a calf strain (replaced by Josh Philippe), and premier spinner Adam Zampa will miss the first game due to family reasons. Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann may step in for Zampa in the opening match at Perth Stadium.
