Jasprit Bumrah Likely to Make India’s Champions Trophy Squad, Pending Fitness Clearance

India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is expected to be part of the squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, set to begin on February 19. However, his inclusion hinges on his fitness status.

During the final day of the Sydney Test, Bumrah left the field for scans due to a stress-related condition and did not bowl in a crucial phase against Australia. While initial reports ruled out a stress fracture in his back, it was clear his workload during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy took a toll. Across five Tests, Bumrah bowled an exhausting 151.2 overs, claiming 32 wickets at an impressive average of 13.06.

Following medical assessments, the BCCI decided to rest him for at least five weeks. Bumrah is scheduled for another scan before the final squad submission deadline on February 11, as per ICC regulations. If the reports are positive and he gets fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bumrah may return for the final ODI of the home series against England on February 12.

The squad for the Champions Trophy is expected to be announced on January 18 during a press conference by Selection Committee Chairman Ajit Agarkar and Indian captain Rohit Sharma. While Bumrah’s name will likely be included provisionally, his final confirmation will depend on his medical clearance.
