Former India and Chennai Super Kings batter Ambati Rayudu has hailed Narine as the greatest player in IPL history, following his match-winning all-round display in KKR’s convincing win over Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens on Saturday, May 16.
Narine’s impact with the ball once again proved decisive as he picked up two wickets for just 29 runs in his four overs, including the crucial dismissal of GT captain Shubman Gill, which tilted the match firmly in KKR’s favour.
Praising the veteran spinner, Rayudu described him as a complete match-winner who delivers with both bat and ball, stating that despite the league producing many greats, Narine stands above all in his assessment.
“Best IPL player of all time, according to me. Proper match-winner with the ball and with the bat. There have been such great players in the IPL, but this guy always stands out,” Rayudu said on ESPNcricinfo’s programme.
Former India coach Sanjay Bangar also supported the praise, calling Narine one of the true IPL legends and highlighting his ability to reinvent himself despite repeated scrutiny over his bowling action.
Narine, who recently played his 200th match for KKR, now has over 205 wickets for the franchise. Even at 37, he continues to dominate IPL 2026 with 13 wickets so far at an impressive economy rate of 6.69, remaining one of the most economical bowlers in the tournament.
