Ben Stokes is set to make his much-anticipated return to the England squad as they announce their playing XI for the second Test against Pakistan, starting October 15 in Multan. The all-rounder, who has been sidelined since early August due to a hamstring injury, will resume his role as captain.
Stokes showcased his fitness during a practice session on Sunday, where he bowled at full pace, providing reassurance to fans ahead of the match. On October 14, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed his recovery, affirming that he will lead the team in this critical encounter.
Having missed England’s last four Tests—including the entire series against Sri Lanka and the opening Test victory over Pakistan—Stokes has remained involved by supporting the team off the field, even bringing out drinks during the first match. Now fit and ready, he aims to make a significant impact both on his return to play and in his leadership role.

Joining Stokes in the squad is Matthew Potts, the promising seamer from Durham, who also makes his return after last playing in the Lord’s Test against Sri Lanka.
As a result of those changes, England have opted to rest seamers Gus Atkinson and Chris Woakes for this match.
England’s XI for the Second Test:
Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (C), Jamie Smith, Brydon Carse, Matt Potts, Jack Leach, Shoaib Bashir.
