The Women in Blue, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, head into the tournament in strong form after winning their first-ever Women’s ODI World Cup last year. They now have an opportunity to secure their maiden T20 World Cup title, with the competition taking place in England from June 12 to July 5.
India begin their campaign with a high-profile clash against Pakistan at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday, June 14.
In his message, Rohit Sharma praised the women’s team for their consistent performances and expressed confidence in their ability to go all the way this time. “They’ve been playing really good cricket for the past few years now… everyone’s rooting for them,” he said.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir urged the players to embrace positivity and play without fear, reminding them of the pride of representing the nation on the world stage.
Shubman Gill also backed the team, stating that they have already made the country proud and have the ability to repeat their success. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer encouraged the side to play “fearless and ruthless cricket” and focus on winning.
