BCCI Warns of New Action Against PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi Over Asia Cup Trophy Dispute – Report

In a significant move, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi is reportedly planning to avoid a direct confrontation with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the ongoing ICC Executive Board meeting in Dubai.

BCCI Summons Naqvi for Asia Cup; ACC Chief Suggests Presentation Ceremony

According to PTI, Naqvi is likely to skip the crucial meeting, citing “domestic political issues” as the reason for his absence.

Naqvi to miss ICC Executive Board meeting
The ICC’s four-day meeting began on Tuesday, and the Asia Cup trophy controversy has not yet been formally discussed. However, the issue is expected to come up in later sessions, giving Naqvi some time to manage the situation before it escalates. His decision appears to be a strategic move to avoid direct confrontation with the BCCI.

PCB has confirmed that Chief Operating Officer Sumair Syed will represent Pakistan at the ICC meeting on November 7 in Naqvi’s place. There is also speculation that Naqvi could join the meeting remotely if required.

Earlier, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had warned that if the Asia Cup trophy was not handed over to India by November 3, the matter would be raised formally at the ICC meeting.

BCCI threatens fresh action against Naqvi
Recent reports from Telecom Asia Sport indicate that the BCCI is preparing to bring new charges against Mohsin Naqvi. One key point under consideration is whether Naqvi is eligible to hold both public and sporting offices simultaneously. It is unclear if Naqvi will attend the meeting to respond, but the Indian board reportedly has the backing of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).

The Asia Cup trophy dispute
The controversy began after India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup final on September 28, 2025, when Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav refused to accept the trophy directly from Naqvi. The PCB chairman later demanded a formal ceremony to hand over the trophy.

Reports conflict on the trophy’s current location: some say it is at the ACC headquarters, while others claim it is still with Naqvi. The exact whereabouts remain unclear.
