Ishan Kishan has been unavailable for selection since December of last year.
In recent weeks, there has been much speculation regarding the inclusion of certain players in Team India’s squad. One player who has garnered significant attention is Ishan Kishan. Ishan has been absent from action since November of last year and withdrew from the South Africa tour midway through the following month, reportedly due to mental fatigue.India’s Ishan Kishan attends a practice session
India head coach Rahul Dravid expressed visible frustration last week in response to repeated questions about Ishan Kishan’s unavailability, emphasizing that the player needs to participate in some cricket matches before considering a return to the national team. A few days later, a report surfaced indicating that Ishan had resumed training alongside the Pandya brothers, Hardik and Krunal, in Baroda.
Interestingly, the young wicketkeeper-batter did not make himself available for selection for Jharkhand in the Ranji Trophy. Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan expressed his surprise at this development on his official Twitter profile earlier this week, stating he was “perplexed” with the player’s unavailability. It appears that the cricket board has also taken note of the situation.
According to a report from the Times of India, the BCCI is reportedly preparing to issue a notice instructing all players to participate in the Ranji Trophy unless they are “injured.” The report also suggests that the board is displeased with some players who seem to be in “IPL mode” already, indicating a lack of focus on domestic cricket.
In the next few days, the BCCI will be reaching out to all players, urging them to participate for their state teams in the Ranji Trophy, unless they are engaged in national duty. Only players who are unfit and undergoing recovery at the NCA will be exempted. The Board is expressing discontent with certain players who have seemingly shifted into IPL mode since January,

Unlike Ishan, Hardik is presently recuperating from an injury sustained during a 2023 World Cup match against Bangladesh. His anticipated return is slated for the Indian Premier League, where he will lead the Mumbai Indians.
India is currently engaged in a five-match Test series against England, marking the national team’s final engagement before the T20 World Cup in June. The board recently unveiled the squad for the remaining three Tests of the series. Notably, Virat Kohli continues to be absent due to personal reasons, while KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have returned to the squad following injury setbacks in the second Test.
