The 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will officially kick off on March 23, 2025, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla announced on Sunday. The confirmation comes after all 10 franchises finalized their squads during the mega auction held in Jeddah on November 24 and 25.
Speculation about the start date had been swirling since the auction, but Shukla ended the guessing game while speaking to reporters after a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Mumbai. “IPL is going to start from March 23,” he confirmed.
The previous IPL season, in 2024, began on March 22 with a clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings, and concluded with the final on May 26 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. This year, Kolkata Knight Riders enter as defending champions after their dominant performance in the 2024 season.
