Jay Shah Poised to Serve Two Three-Year Terms as ICC Chairman - Reports

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bengaluru on September 29 at the Four Seasons Hotel. State associations were informed on September 5. The meeting will also mark the inauguration of the High Performance Centre in the city.

No Election for Secretary at AGM

One major item missing from the agenda is the election for a new board secretary. Initially, it was expected that a new secretary would be elected after Jay Shah’s appointment as the ICC chairman. Now, the BCCI will need to organize a Special General Meeting (SGM) to choose a new secretary before Shah takes over on December 1.

Key Agenda Items

The AGM’s 18-point agenda includes routine decisions, such as appointing a representative to the ICC. With Shah stepping down from this role, the BCCI will need to select someone well-versed in ICC affairs.

Bengaluru Venue Significance

The meeting’s location in Bengaluru, the hometown of BCCI president Roger Binny, suggests he may play a significant role in the discussions. It’s possible Binny could be chosen as the BCCI’s new ICC representative.

Additional Agenda Points

The AGM will also cover:

  • Election of two representatives to the IPL governing council.
  • Induction of a representative from the Indian Cricketers’ Association into the IPL council.
  • Approval of the annual budget.
  • Appointment of an Ombudsman and Ethics Officer.
  • Formation of Cricket and Standing Committees, as required by the Constitution.
  • Appointment of an Umpires Committee.
  • Additionally, the AGM will review a report from the Internal Committee under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy and consider any motions from Full Members submitted 21 days before the meeting. It will also approve rules set by the Apex Council, mainly concerning domestic cricket.
