BCB to Take Legal Action Against Durbar Rajshahi Over Payment Issues
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced plans to pursue legal action against BPL franchise Durbar Rajshahi following their failure to pay overseas players and clear hotel bills. According to Iftekhar Rahman, chairman of the BCB media committee, the board had given the franchise multiple opportunities to resolve the issue but has now reached its limit.
The situation escalated when unpaid foreign players refused to play in Sunday’s match against Rangpur Riders, forcing Rajshahi to field an all-local XI. This move violated BPL rules requiring at least two overseas players in the playing XI. Despite this breach, the BPL governing council made a one-time exception, marking a historic first in the tournament’s history.
Legal Action on the Horizon
“We have to take legal action now,” said Iftekhar Rahman. “The payments must be made, or the BPL’s reputation will be at stake. We’ve been patient, but the franchise has crossed all limits. We will file cases for breach of contract and other violations.”
Rajshahi’s Unlikely Victory Amid Chaos
Despite the challenges, Rajshahi pulled off a surprising two-run win over table-toppers Rangpur Riders. Captain Taskin Ahmed described the day as a “new experience,” shedding light on the team’s struggles.
“We had to change hotels on the morning of the game due to booking issues,” Taskin shared. “Just two hours before heading to the stadium, we were told the foreign players wouldn’t play. The board asked us to go ahead with the game, and we focused on doing our best.”
Taskin revealed that some payments were made to local players on match day, but there remains uncertainty about whether the cheques will clear. “Everyone wants to play in a peaceful environment, but we’re staying positive and trying to perform despite these issues,” he added.
It’s Bumrah or nothing for India as the legend shoulders the team’s hopes.
Foreign Players Boycott Matches
Six foreign players, including Pakistan’s Mohammad Haris and Aftab Alam, have refused to play for Durbar Rajshahi, citing unpaid salaries. Others who joined the boycott include Lahiru, McCauley Cummins, Mark Doyle, and Ryan Burl.
This marks the second such dispute during the ongoing BPL season, raising concerns over the tournament’s management. With no foreign players available, Durbar Rajshahi had to field an all-local playing XI in their match against Rangpur.
The situation has cast a shadow over the BPL, with the BCB determined to take strict action to protect the league’s reputation and ensure players are paid their dues.
